The Discovery

by your Ride Committee

So, you’re sitting at one of those gatherings – you know, where the conversation is a bit tepid, you don’t know the people well, but you gotta be there.  And, as the conversation lags, one of those social elite types comes out with, “I remember that time in Paris…”  Rather than wait for a boring “I’ve been to France 3 times” story, your rapier-like response could be “which one?”  This is your chance to enhance your conversational genius by drawing on bike trip experiences that will add excitement to any gathering.

What, you haven’t been to more than one Paris?  How about Stonehenge?  Surely you’ve been to more than one Stonehenge?   Well, ok, that’s easy to fix.

You’re a Texan, right? I mean, you live in Texas – you’re a Texan.  You can introduce gourmet snacks into the conversation, too.  You’ve eaten fried rattlesnake, I’m sure.  You haven’t?  Not even a taste?  We’re gonna have to work on that.  Surely you’ve been west of the Pecos, though.  I’m pretty sure you have to have been west of the Pecos just to live in Texas.

And I know that when you start talking about going to the Doc’s, you’re describing some great dessert, right?  No?  Jeez, well how about when you mention you’re going to the “hat” – you’re talking about a road trip to Utah, yes?

Then there’s Art – you could be talking about the sculptures up on 677 or in Albany.  Surely these are all familiar?  No?! What about a western mural?   Hmmm, I’m beginning to wonder.  We’ve definitely got to get you out a little more.

You can easily experience all these and more by tuning in to the Discovery Individual Challenge Ride.  That’s right, check out the sites and just get on that bike and ride.  Rack up some points on the way.  Get some stories to write up for the newsletter and some pictures to show around.

Try fried rattlesnake in Sweetwater, get an Arts fix close to home or in Abiquiu, Taos or Albany, go to Paris and see the Eiffel Tower, or how about a Frontier Forts tour?  All of these can get you points in the Individual Challenge Ride this year.

Your bride deserves more than flowers – take her to the largest Azalea Garden in Texas instead.  Combine shopping and a ride to the Wild and Chic  Boutique.  Then head down and have lunch where George Bush does when he’s at the ranch at Don Citrano’s Coffee Cafe.

Or how about the kids?  Maybe a park or two would make a good ride.

Wait.  I forgot.  You’re a party animal.  You need a good party to get the juices flowing, but you want something different.  Pick a party and jump on that bike and ride!  Attend a Star Party!

And lest we forget what this is all about, use the Discovery Individual Challenge Ride to get out on that bike and have some fun!

Discover somewhere you haven’t been or discover something new in a place you haven’t been in awhile.  And get in some good riding, too.  What more can you ask for?  Join us and challenge yourself.
